christmas vacay part 1

I thought I would end this year right by catching up with blogging and ending my 2 week hiatus.

To start our christmas vacay, we flew to LA to visit Devin's dad.
When we arrived, we met up with one of our good good friends, Alex Coates, from our BYU days!
It was so good to see him!

We had a lot of fun in sunny california! So warm and beautiful!

Devin's dad made sure we got our exercising in!
This is before our yoga class at the country club

Namaste.

Devin is surprisingly very flexible. The teacher loved him!

We were way excited to see the new remodel! It's really coming along and looks amazing!

Some more working out! It was super nice to run at sea level!

One of the nights we were there, we met up in beverly hills with one of my best friends from BYU!
It was so fun to see her and eat delicious cupcakes at Sprinkles! (sadly we didn't see any celebs)

One of the days we drove to San Diego for the Poinsettia bowl! It was BYU vs. san diego state and it was so fun to sit with all the cougars and watch BYU win. I loved it!

Bob, Devin, Me, and cousin Tessa.

A panoramic view:

We stopped by Devin's cousins house on the way home and took some pics in front of the tree and ate cake. Great way to end the evening!

Thanks for a wonderful vacation Bob! We had a blast!

Next up...
christmas vacay part 2!

we need a little christmas

I'm shocked and saddened by the tragedy that took place in connecticut today.
My heart goes out to the families and children that are affected and I will be praying for them.
I couldn't help but think of my own darling, innocent, students from last year and so I thought I would post this sweet video of them singing in our christmas program.
There's nothing like the voices of little children.

and this is what my iphone has to say

Happy 12/12/12! yesterday....
I was so upset because I looked at the clock right at 12:12 today. That would have been super cool if that happened yesterday!

Devin and I have been playing some christmas duets lately. He's definitely my favorite student i've ever had!

I love target and I feel like i'm there every night because it's so close to where we live.

Check out this amazing fur vest that I found in the children's section. I know it's hard to see in this pic, but you can't miss those giant shoulder pads. Luckily devin talked me out of getting it.

can anyone else see a resemblance?...

D takes such good care of me. Look at him cook that taco meat.

For some reason I just keep making cookies. I guess it's just that time of year. That and guacamole? I've made 2 batches this week. Feliz navidad I guess?

It snowed about 1/4 of an inch!
An elderly man at work told me he couldn't leave the house to come to the gym because of it... I'm still confused about that.

Tuesday I ran 3 miles in 27 minutes!! i was so proud of myself. Definitely one of the highlights of the week.

I'm in love with my target wrapping paper!

This morning i went around the corner to our little apartment gym. There is only one treadmill though. So I did the elliptical for 30 minutes while waiting for this girl to be finished walking.(not bitter at all). Finally she gets off and this other girl walks in and totally takes the treadmill. Grrrrrrrr....No one takes stepherz treadmill!
Anyway... I left, all the while repeating in my head "christmas spirit. christmas spirit...have some christmas spirit..." and so I decided to just run outside. But i just wasn't in the mood and only ran 1.5 miles. All I could think about was eating oatmeal.

coloradan adventures!

Saturday morning we got up and worked out! It was lots of fun. I love working out with this guy!

We decided to go on a little Coloradan Adventure! So we drove up to Estes Park. It's this beautiful little town in the rockies, about 2 hours away from Denver. We went exploring and went to the little shops on main street.

The first thing we did was stop at subway because i was waaayyyyy hungry. as usual...
i don't know why he looks so sad in this picture. He's holding a subway sandwich for crying out loud!

After lunch, we did some christmas shopping. There were so many cute little mountain shops that entertained us for quite a while. We went in this cute old fashioned candy shop and Devin bought fireballs. (he always surprises me. I never knew that people actually liked those..)

Can you see the snowflakes?
After shopping, we drove into Rocky Mountain National Park and did a little loop. It was so fun to actually see it snowing!! It was so pretty!

Then we went to the Stanley Mansion. Apparently it is haunted and you can go on ghost tours! We didn't have time for that, but we did explore. Luckily we didn't see any ghosts.

Devin planking on a deer. (it's his first planking picture. We're a little behind the times. Better late than never right?)

The mansion had this amazing gift shop with some GORGEOUS fur vests. Too bad I didn't have 200 bucks on me..
They also had this large panda! I love pandas.

mmmmm... they also had a starbucks, so we drank some peppermint steamers. So delish!

Gorgeous view outside the mansion

On the way home we stopped in Boulder to check out the mall there and to eat at BJ's pizza! This place is incredible. Thank you ash and brad for introducing us. I promise to take you there if you come and visit!

my 72 hour kit project

This is my little project that I have been wanting to get done for a while now.
72 hour kits.
With so much craziness in the world, one can never be too careful.
You should all see the movie Red Dawn and you will know what I'm talking about. It was super cool.

Hopefully we won't ever ever ever have to use these, but it feels awesome to be prepared.

So basically what I did was research on various blogs/pinterest the best items for 72 hour kits.
I combined that with an amazing wedding gift we received that had a ton of cool stuff that I will show ya.

So above are the items we got in our wedding gift.
Everything in this picture is from a big kit from Emergency Essentials. (and it's based out of Orem, Utah. Go figure.)
Here are the "essentials":
1. Two big backpacks.
2. Two awesome black hats with lights on the front.
3. Emergency blankets/ponchos/head lamps/whistles/pocket knife/duct tape/hard candy.
4. First aid kit. Includes masks, tape, bandaids, medical tape, surgical gloves, feminine products etc.
5. Hand warmers/candle/mini radio/water purifying tablets/firestarter.
6. Prepackaged water/high calorie food bars.
7. Toilet paper/lightstick/tent

and...

Here are some things that I added:
1. snickers/fruit snacks/beef jerky
2. Light sticks/head lamp/batteries/pocket knife/2 radios with tons of different functions.
3. WATER.

and here I am thinking I'm really hilarious with my head light on.

Some things that I need to add:
1. Copies of: birth certificates/ID's/legal papers/cash... etc.
2. photos
3. flashlights
4. extra clothes
5. more food
6. lots and lots of chocolate (and possibly a stash of diet coke)

But this is a good start!

junk drawer be gone!

I love the beginning of a new month because it's like starting over. I make new goals for the month and feel like I have magically hit the refresh button.

My december workout goals
1. run 3 miles, 5 days per week.
2. attend 2 classes at the gym per week.
3. eat healthy and stay away from treats. (besides my nightly cup of diet hot cocoa and marshmallows)

----------------------
Today I had the day off and so I was able to FINALLY get to organizing a few things that i have been meaning to organize ever since we moved in.

Everyone has a junk drawer right?
Well, mine was driving me nuts! and so I finally found 10 minutes to organize it. I had no idea how easy it would be. All I did was purchase a $6 drawer organizer at Target. (They also have really cute fancy organizers, but I couldn't justify spending $15 on my junk drawer)

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Our closet was also driving me nuts. I don't even open it unless I have to because it is/was so bad looking.

Here's the BEFORE: (can't believe i let it get like this)

and AFTER:

ahhhh... (sigh of relief!)

Today I'm also working on a christmas package for Devin's brother, Ryan. and our 72 hour kits! (more on that later)

Thanksgiving

Better late than never right?
Be prepared for a picture overload.

Dev and I had a lovely time driving to Salt Lake for T-giving. I love road trips! and I'm hoping it rubs off on devin.. he has yet to see the joy in eating snacks... taking naps...listening to music...relaxing...chatting... stopping for diet coke...
and DONETTES!
I looked in the gas stations for hostess donnettes and there were 7 packages left in the middle of Wyoming! It was very exciting.

Maybe he doesn't like road trips because I take pictures of him while he's sleeping. heheheh

When we got to my house, I was so excited to be home. This is how my mom found me: cuddling with piglet (my favorite stuffed animal ever) and looking at photo albums. Totally normal.

This is how i am when i'm with my family. Totally nutzzzzz... It's fine...

Listening to ashley's hilarious jokes..

Early in the week of T-giving I was sick and wasn't feeling up to doing the turkey trot. I'm totally sad about it and can't remember the last time I didn't run on thanksgiving. Super sad.
But it was still fun to watch the boys play football!

Our good friends, Tera and Jeremy, came to the turkey bowl. They live in Arizona now and it was soooo much fun to see them!

My football hunk!

Sister dear

My dad is one crazy football player.

All of the football guys. There was a great turn out!

Another tradition of my family is to go to ihop for breakfast. (while my mom cooks...) It's very important to stretch your stomach so you are prepared for Thanksgiving dinner.
Just being crazy

My sis and I love the camera.
and the camera loves us...

My mom made the most amazing dinner ever! She never ceases to amaze me!
Grandma and I matched the table!

Love these two!

The rest of the week was spent shopping... going to movies... zumba... running...eating.. sleeping... all the important things in life.

 the cutest/bestest parents!
My parents took us to buy christmas trees! It was so much fun. Especially because they have free candy canes! I love candy canes.

Check out this picture of my mom photo bombing
Every year we get amazing trees from our relatives: Barb and Rick. Their trees are from Oregon, so they are super special.

And that was our lovely thanksgiving. Thank you to my sister... the majority of these pictures are hers.. Love ya sissy!
